Start the Success

How best to use this tool?

• Repeated practice trains the brain to see the pattern.

• The student becomes successful by saying little words.

• The student has success saying words, then sentences.

(Each small step is a success step.)

We do not ask the student, "What did you just read?"

(The school's reading program will ask those kinds of questions.)

When saying known words in a planned sequence, the sequence begins to have meaning.

The student may not realize he is reading, but he will begin to see meaning in a word sequence.
 (a gradual process)

• It becomes a success to say words in the written order.

• It becomes a success to see meaning in the sequence.

Allow your student to have the thrill of identifying meaning in his own mind.

• Meaning will come; it will be success for the student.

Strategy:

Please, never say the word, "read" because that word strikes FEAR in many.
Instead use the word, "say" or some other kind word.

Let your student slowly begin to realize that he is reading.

Please, do not rush. Actually Sessions 10 - 20 may take longer for the student to develop intuitive pattern awareness.

Allow your student to feel the success of being able to see patterns and to say words.

Please, do not ask, "What was the story about?" or "Tell me the story."
(Let the school do that.)

As your student becomes more successful in saying the words,

you will begin to see the understanding of meanings.

Practice the Sessions three or four times each week.


It may take as many as 3 or 4 or 5 months of regular practice to complete all 20 Sessions.
